Sparking Funds for the Arts
Do you have an idea for an art project but need some seed money to get it off the ground? If so, invite all your friends and bring your idea to the Railroad Playhouse on S. Water Street in Newburgh on Tuesday, September 27 from 6-8pm where you can take part in SPARK, a unique event designed to use community-driven financial support to democratically provide small amounts of seed money to local art-makers.
Here’s how it works. Artists submit a brief description (500 words or less) of the project they wish to request funds for – it should be something small and attainable. All attendees pay a $10 cover charge that goes towards the SPARK fund for the evening. Food and refreshments are served and time is given to network and socialize. Proposals are distributed to the attendees and artists are given 2-3 minutes to talk or give a presentation about their project.
All those in attendance will then vote for their favorite project and the winner gets the money collected at the door that evening to assist with their project. The more people in attendance, the more money is awarded. All artist proposals should be emailed to [email protected] by noon on 9/27.
