with Guest Conductor RICHARD REGAN
and Everybody's Favorite "Kiddie Conductors"
plus Bass-Baritone ERICH TUSCH

The Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra presents SUMMER POPS AT DOWNING--AN AMERICAN SALUTE on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in Downing Park, Newburgh.  Rick Regan, our principal trombonist, will be making his GNSO conducting debut at this grand summer concert in the picturesque setting of beautiful Downing Park.  This tribute to American composers is free to all with selections by Morton Gould, John Corigliano, Aaron Copland, John Philip Sousa, Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin.  Everybody's favorite "Kiddie Conductors" will star along with favorite area soloist Erich Tusch.

Richard F. Regan is currently the Artistic Director of the Greater New York Wind Symphony. Rick also maintains conducting positions with the Orange County Youth Symphony and the Hudson Valley Honors Youth Wind Ensemble.  Additionally, he is in demand as a guest conductor of bands and orchestras throughout the east coast and has served on the brass and conducting faculty of various summer youth music institutes in New York State.  Rick is employed by the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District in Central Valley, where he teaches brass and percussion and conducts their award winning High School Wind Ensemble.

The renowned "Kiddie Conductors," the superstars of Summer Pops at Downing, are the children in the audience.  Every child present is invited to take a turn at conducting the orchestra in the lively Washington Post March following a brief lesson.  Student-musicians, extended the opportunity to perform with a live orchestra, will also be joining GNSO.

Bass-baritone Erich Tusch has appeared as a featured soloist throughout the region.  Mr. Tusch has performed with the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra as the bass soloist for Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.  Most recently he appeared as the bass soloist in Handel’s Messiah at West Point.  Mr. Tusch is currently the District Supervisor of Technology for the Pascack Valley Regional High School District in northern New Jersey.  He is also Director of Music for St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Highland Mills, where he conducts the Adult and Youth Choirs, as well as the Youth Orchestra.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy lighthearted music in the idyllic park setting.  Buy a raffle ticket to win one of the many baskets brimming with goodies.  In case of rain, the concert will take place at Aquinas Hall, Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh.  Call (845) 913-7157 or go to www.newburghsymphony.org for more
