Trumpet & Piano Concert
John Charles Thomas on trumpet and Bari Mort on piano perform a benefit concert for the Cornwall Community Co-op followed by a reception at the co-op's Harvest Market.
Thomas and Mort will perform Liberte, Egalite, Cooperatif!, a one-hour program to include works by Bernstein, Joplin, Granados & Gershwin at the Cornwall Presbyterian Church at 222 Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson at 7:30 pm. Suggested donation is $20; children and farmers: $10. Become a new member of the Co-op and receive free admission to the concert.
A reception to follow immediately next door at the Cornwall Community Co-op's Harvest Market at 208 Hudson Street.

The Performers
JOHN CHARLES THOMAS, trumpeter, has performed in Europe, Asia, Canada and the U.S. as
soloist and chamber musician. He has played under many of the great conductors, including Sir Colin Davis, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Mutti, and Mstislav Rostropovich. He is currently the principal trumpet with the Ridgefield Symphony (Connecticut), associate principal trumpet of the Queens Symphony (NYC), and a member of the Grammy Award winning Chestnut Brass Company. John has performed regularly with the New York Philharmonic, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, and various Broadway shows. He is a frequent recitalist, and his solo appearances with orchestras have included performances of Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 2”, Haydn’s “Trumpet Concerto”, Copland’s “Quiet City” and the Shostakovitch “Concerto for Trumpet and Piano. John has appeared in concert as the featured trumpet soloist with Manhattan Transfer. He can be heard on several film soundtracks including, S.W.A.T., Sphere, Final Fantasy, and Titus. John is a resident of the Village, and a working member of the Cornwall Community CO•OP.
BARI MORT, pianist, as winner of the Artists International Young Musicians Auditions, made her New York recital debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Of that concert, New York Times critic Bernard Holland described her as a pianist who "uses her excellent musical instincts with taste and technical security." He went on to comment on her "big, generous ideas...pure phrasing" and "intense virtuosity."
Ms. Mort has performed many solo recitals and chamber music concerts in the United States. She is a member of the New York Chamber Ensemble and has appeared with the International String Quartet, Musica de Camera, Phoenix Chamber Players, Da Capo Chamber Players, and the American Symphony, among others. She has toured the continental United States for Columbia Artists’ Community Concerts series. An avid performer of twentieth-century music, she has recorded as soloist on a contemporary American music CD for ERM Records and as chamber musician on two releases for Albany Records. More recently she was soloist with the American Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Joan Tower’s Piano Concerto. She currently resides in Croton-on-Hudson, NY with her husband, film editor David Zieff and children.
