At Riverhill – Garden of Joe & Tamara DiMattio (251 Patterson Lane, Saugerties; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), a five-acre hillside slopes down to a rocky beach on the Hudson River, with sculpted terraces along the way, and several hundred container plantings add interest to the landscape. Visit Thunder Lane (361 Union Center Road, Ulster Park; 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.), which features self-seeding plants, beautiful weeds, tropicals, and garden sculpture, set out along a railroad track and used in a theatrical context.

The Open Days program is America’s only national private garden-visiting program, and is made possible by the work of hundreds of volunteers nationwide.
