Understanding Anxiety, Stress, Depression and Suicide Prevention
WHERE: Washingtonville Middle School 38 West Main St. Washingtonville, NY 10992 WHEN: Thursday May 13, 2010 TIME: 7:00pm – 8:30pm WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Parents, Students, Teachers, Community Leaders of Washingtonville and surrounding School Districts Overview:
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 50 percent of mental health disorders start by the age of 14. Up to 10 percent of youth experience serious impairment that leaves them unable to function in school, at home or with peers.A sense of belonging and being connected to a community and supported by a community is an important factor to reduce stigma and promote mental wellness and reduce suicides.
A panel of survivors including a discussion on stress and anxiety will speak about what they have learned, some through personal loss, and what resources are available to you in being able to reach out to young adults as parents, as friends, and as teachers. The focus of the workshop is to identify and promote strategies that facilitate opportunities for people to connect within the local commu-nity to assist in promoting mental wellness and suicide prevention.
