Orange County Land Trust to Hold Walk and Wine Tasting Event for Singles
The Orange County Land Trust will hold a “Singles Walk and Wine” outing beginning at 2 pm on Saturday, July 24. The event will begin with a moderate hike at Lower Bashakill Preserve and continue with live music and a tasting of award winning local wines at nearby Bashakill Vineyards, Sullivan County’s only commercial winery.
This event is a great way to meet other single adults interested in enjoying and protecting our natural areas while sampling locally produced wines! Lower Bashakill Preserve is a 138-acre nature preserve owned and managed by the Orange County Land Trust and flanking the Bashakill at the foot of the Shawangunks. After hiking, participants will travel to nearby Bashakill Vineyards, an eco-friendly vineyard producing “certified naturally-grown” grapes and wines with no additives and very low levels of sulfites. The vineyard lies on a slope above the Bashakill wetlands where moist, warm air from the water provides a blanket of protection over the vineyard. Owner Paul Dennino calls this environment “a perfect micro climate” for growing his hardy and disease resistant grapes which were specially developed at Cornell University. In addition, trellis posts that support the grapevines are made of untreated native Black Locust wood so that the vineyard can remain chemical-free.
Registration is required for this event, as space is limited. A donation of $5 per person to the OCLT is suggested with all proceeds benefiting land preservation and farmland protection. Wine tastings are free, and wine by the glass will be available for purchase, as well as bottles of wine. Live music will be performed that afternoon by Sarah Morr, also at no charge.
