| Meet pirates at the H.M.S. Bounty |
The public is invited to tour a replica of the ship the HMS Bounty that will lower its anchor at the Newburgh Waterfront on Thursday morning and stay for the weekend.
On Saturday, kids can sign up for Pirates School, where they will meet pirates from the New York Renaissance Faire and hear live music while learning the practice of pirate plunderin'.
Join the Pirate Contest on Saturday, sponsored by the Newburgh Free Library at Newburgh Landing. Free registration from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Pirate procession past the judges beginning at 1 p.m., and award announcements at 2 p.m. Categories: adults 16 and over, youth under 16: Disney’s Jack Sparrow Look-Alike, Disney’s Elizabeth Swann Look-Alike, Funniest Pirate, and Most Original Pirate. First prize books will be awarded for all categories; second prize books for the Look-Alikes.
The H.M.S. Bounty tours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday -- 10am-last tour 5pm, adults $7, children $5. The ship itself is running the tours; there are no advance sales.
