Organ Recital at West Point

The Jewish Chapel at the USMA at West Point presents a free organ recital at 3 p.m. April 25. The featured artist will be Anthony Rispo, who grew up in Westchester County and "gained numerous awards and accolades for his extraordinary performance abilities as a young itinerant performer." Currently he is studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Todd Wilson.

The chapel's organ is said to be the world's largest with more than 23,500 pipes in a cathedral sanctuary measuring more than 200 feet long. "The pipes fill the space from the massive six-tier galleries in the front to the horizontal trumpets in the back," said Craig Williams, West Point's organist and choirmaster. "The performer is seated at a console with four manuals and pedal containing 874 moving stop tabs, making it the largest of its type in the world. It is heard by thousands of visitors annually, including heads of state, members of Congress, cabinet members and foreign dignitaries."

The organ recital is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be accepted.

As with all events at West Point, security is tight. Allow extra time for a full vehicle inspection at the security gates and have photo identification available for everyone 16 and older. For information, call 938-7352.
