String Trio Performance at SUNY Orange
S3 New York String Trio of New York Celebrating 35 Years of Performance
SUNY Orange’s World Music and Culture Series presents a concert this Friday with S3 New York – The String Trio of New York, featuring performances by James Emery on guitar, John Lindberg on bass, and Rob Thomas on violin. Enjoy an evening of original compositions celebrating the trio’s 35th anniversary on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 7pm in the Great Room, Kaplan Hall.
Formed on the Lower East Side of New York City, the String Trio of New York has been delighting, inspiring and thrilling audiences around the world with its singular acoustic improvisations and compositions for violin, guitar and bass. Initially conceived as a composer/performer’s collective, the Trio has grown in scope and now features a repertoire of over sixty stylistically diverse works made up of originals by the members, works commissioned from composers such as Muhal Richard Abrams, Dave Douglas, Joe Lovano, Wadada Leo Smith, Mark Helias, Bobby Previte, Marty Ehrlich, and Anthony Davis, and arrangements of classics by Ellington, Mingus, Monk, Parker, Coltrane, Powell, Shorter, and others.
This program is funded, in part, by Orange County Tourism and the County of Orange. This program is also made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, celebrating 50 years of building strong, creative communities in New York State’s 62 counties.
Free, secure parking is available in the Kaplan Hall underground parking garage accessible via First Street.
