Assemblyman Frank Skartados hosting ?Future of the Hudson River? Forum
Assemblyman Frank Skartados (D-Newbugh/Poughkeepsie/Beacon) will be hosting a forum to discuss the future of the Hudson River along with Assemblywoman Sandy Galef and other speakers, including Fran Dunwell, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Coordinator.
“The Hudson River is such a beautiful asset for our area and we need to protect it and preserve it for our kids and grandkids,” Skartados said. “Just spending an afternoon on the Walkway Over the Hudson, you can see the possibilities for recreation and tourism that the Hudson River provides for us.”
The topic of the forum will be the Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda, which outlines an ecosystem-based approach to addressing the issues facing the waterway. The core mission of the Hudson River Estuary Program is to ensure clean water, protect fish, wildlife and their habitats, provide water recreation and river access, adapt to climate change, and preserve the scenery of the Hudson River Valley.
“The Hudson River is the heart and soul of our region. Now, more than ever, we need to conserve its resources and utilize its potential for the benefit of the public,” said Dunwell. “We hope to generate lively discussion on priorities for the future. We will also explore opportunities to create new partnerships that will help the people of the Hudson Valley achieve the objectives of the Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda by working together. "
