The Ann Street Gallery presents Bound: Artist Books, a group exhibition, which opens on Saturday, November 7, 2009 with an Artist Reception from 6-9 PM.
The exhibit runs from November 7 through December 19 and the featured artists include Alice Austin, Carol Barton, Aileen Basis, Doug Beube, R.D. Burton, Mary-Ellen Campbell, Beatrice Coron, Catherine Kirkpatrick, Thornwillow Press, Amanda Sparks and Alice Vaughan.
The Ann Street Gallery is delighted to highlight the creativity of these eleven contemporary artists, whose innovative approaches to the traditional craft of book making and bindery is worthy of greater attention and exposure. The common threads that unite the artists is their ability to utilize diverse book making and bindery techniques, as well as their dedication in expressing artistic concepts in a media that has capability for expression simply because of its unique physical characteristics. Many of the works in the exhibit are sculptural, site-specific; include mixed media, and others just beautifully ornamental. However, what is most compelling about these artist books is the strong sensory impact and uniqueness of approach that each artist has brought to their work.
