Conference on Literacy

Mount Saint Mary College and the Amy Bull Crist Reading Council present the 19th Annual Conference on Literacy. Saturday, April 21 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The event will be held in Hudson Hall on campus, 330 Powell Avenue, Newburgh.

Keynote speaker Rita Williams-Garcia, an award-winning author, will present "A Little Magic, If You Please," inspiring ways educators and parents can work with young people to think, read, and write about the world.

Williams-Garcia is the author of numerous books, including the award winning titles, “One Crazy Summer,” “Jumped,” and “Like Sisters on the Home Front.”

Known for their realistic portrayal of young people of color, Williams-Garcia’s books have been recognized by the Coretta Scott King Award Committee, American Library Association, PEN Norma Klein, and Parents’ Choice, among others.

The conference is coordinated by Mount education chair Reva Cowan and faculty members Janine Bixler, J. David Gallagher, Rebecca Norman and Kristin Slover.

Conference fees are $50 general, $20 for full-time students, and $30 for ABC Reading Council Members. Registration closes April 13.
