Making Things in Wood
|
| A wood sculpture by Daniel Mack. |
Come for an adventure in the woods with renowned rustic artist Daniel Mack! On Saturday, October 3, the Orange County Land Trust will offer a family friendly nature program Making Things in the Woods led by Warwick artist Daniel Mack. This educational program is for all ages and will be held from 1-4 pm at the Land Trust’s 215-acre nature preserve in the Town of Hamptonburgh.
Making Things in the Woods is a hands-on workshop in nature where participants will explore, play and learn how to build things such as tangled fences, lean-to shelters and rough trellises from wood found naturally outdoors in our local woodlands. With Dan, participants will discover how the blown down, fallen down and debris wood found in the forest can become transformed into beautiful and useful works of art.
Please call the Orange County Land Trust at (845) 343-0840, x12 to register for this event. A donation of $20 per person or $35 per family is suggested with proceeds going to the Orange County Land Trust for land preservation. Participants should bring work gloves and water and some snack food to share with the group.
Hamptonburgh Preserve is located at the intersection of Routes 207 and 416 near Campbell Hall. A parking entrance is located on Route 207, just east of the intersection. The preserve is a prime nesting habitat for waterfowl, woodpeckers, bluebirds and other cavity-nesting birds and consists of rolling wildflower meadows, farmland and a riverine forest along the Wallkill River.
The Orange County Land Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the natural areas, scenic ridgelines and working farmland in Orange County, working to ensure the county remains a region of varied and beautiful landscapes. To date, the Land Trust has protected nearly 3,600 acres of land through the placement of conservation easements, and the ownership and management of nine nature preserves that are open to the public free of charge for recreation and nature study. For more information, including volunteer opportunities and ways of giving, please call (845) 343-0840 or visit the website at www.oclt.org.
