The Ann Street Gallery presents DESIGNING WOMEN: A Group Fiber Arts Exhibition, featuring ten fiber artists who employ sewing, knitting, weaving and quilting techniques to create a wide range of contemporary works. These women are continuing a tradition whose beginnings can be traced back twenty thousand years or more to the dawn of civilization.
DESIGNING WOMEN presents an exciting opportunity for the public to experience works that incorporate not only traditional methods, but also new technologies while addressing issues that are more formal. Continuing the fiber arts tradition and its evolution into the present millenia, these artists have created innovative works that extend beyond the notion of historically based fiber media constructs.
On exhibit are a varied and diverse selection of art quilts, embroideries, weavings sculptures and installation works.
The exhibition opens with an Artist Reception on from Saturday September 12 from 6-9 PM and runs through October 24.
Artists featured in the exhibition include:
Laura Breitman
Taka Bennet
Ann Braver
Andrea Brown
Heather Cherry
Sharon Falk
Mimi Graminski
Patricia Hickman
Elizabeth Sciore Jones
Natalia Margulis
Kelly Sturhahn
