International Festival



 

This year’s 22nd Annual International Festival will not be on the waterfront, but on the spacious grounds of the former New York State Armory at 355 S. William Street, from Friday evening, Sept. 3– Monday, Sept. 6. In addition to the carnival midway by Shamrock Shows, there will be a wide array of international cuisine, vendors, and live performances. Opening Ceremonies will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4.

The Arm of the Sea Theater, which has delighted regional audiences for more than 20 years, is scheduled to present “The City that Drinks the Mountain Sky” on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. The show is billed as “the epic story of New York City’s water supply, told in the elemental beauty of puppet theater.” The performance is family-oriented, and FREE!

There is no admission charge for the festival, which kicks off with “Wristband Night” on Friday at 5 p.m. For $18 youngsters can purchase a “wristband” that allows them to enjoy unlimited carnival rides throughout the evening.

Live performances start at 4 p.m. Saturday. The lineup is as follows:

Saturday, Sept. 4

4 p.m. Layfigures
5 p.m.: Avengers
6:15 p.m. Axion
7:30 p.m. False Vendetta
8:45 Touché
10 p.m. Woodcocks

Sunday, Sept. 5

3 p.m. Arm of the Sea Theater
5 p.m.: The Amendment
6:15 p.m. Robert Kurtis (Johnny Cash impersonator)
7:30 p.m. Dandy Lions
8:45 Anthony K. Band
10 p.m. Push


Monday, Sept. 6

1-3 p.m. Gospel Fest (Ebenezer Baptist Church Mass Choir & Praise Dancers)
3 p.m. Footworks Dance Center
4 p.m. Inner Shaman
5 p.m. Deep Chemistry
6 p.m. Jason Casterlin
7 p.m.: Love Lane Band
8 p.m.: 3rd Degree

The show will go on, rain or shine. Midway rides and early-bird vendors will begin on Friday around 5 p.m. The festivities will be in full swing with, carnival rides and attractions on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m., and on Monday from noon till 10 p.m.

Other attractions include a display by the Newburgh Rowing Club, and the City of Newburgh Police Department will be doing child fingerprinting, providing free car seats and instruction for children, and K-9 demonstrations. The City of Newburgh Fire Department will be on hand with a fire truck. DMU Music will be providing a medley of favorite music from around the world for all ages throughout the festival.
