The Forest Ride

Bill Schuster had a great time on the Forest Ride last year!

Over Columbus Day weekend, October 10-12, riders will enjoy three days of cycling through the Hudson Highlands at the peak of fall foliage season.

A single-day option on Sunday, October 11 creates a range of choices, from 62 or 100 miles in one day to as much as 185 miles over three. The event will also feature a guided hike through Black Rock Forest led by scientists on the Consortium’s staff.

Each day of the Forest Ride will feature different regional highlights:
* Saturday, October 10 begins with a 25-mile “leaf peeping” loop in the Cornwall vicinity. The afternoon features a guided hike through Black Rock Forest

* On Sunday, October 11 the one-day riders are welcomed for the longest day of riding: a choice of a rolling 62-mile route or a challenging 100-mile route through Orange County and north into Ulster County.

* On Monday, October 12, the event concludes with the “Farm and Feast” ride, with rest stops at an organic farm, an apple orchard and a closing celebration at a local winery.

The Forest Ride will offer route support including well-stocked rest stops every 15 miles, ample signage, sweep vans, bike techs and medical support. The high level of support makes success possible for even the most casual cyclist.

Details on the Forest Ride are available at www.ForestRide.org and toll-free at 866.858.6877.

Black Rock Forest Consortium's mission is to advance scientific understanding through research and education programs, and through partnerships that ensure effective regional ecosystem management. The organization maintains a 3,830-acre forest preserve and a biological field station. BRFC counts a dozen schools and districts among its members, allowing students from Orange and Ulster Counties and New York City – including some of the poorest districts in the nation –  to gain an appreciation and understanding of the natural world.
