Mount presents a Forum with State Mental Health Commissioner.
The Center on Aging & Policy at Mount Saint Mary College will present “Mental Health Across the Lifespan” at 10 a.m. Friday (April 30) in Hudson Hall, featuring Michael F. Hogan, New York State Commissioner of Mental Health. The public is welcome to this free forum.
Hogan will deliver the keynote address. His Office of Mental Health operates 25 accredited psychiatric hospitals and administers New York’s $5 billion public mental health system, which serves 650,000 individuals annually.
Hogan chaired the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health in 2002-03. He has received leadership awards from the National Governors Association, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Campaign for Mental Health Reform, the American College of Mental Health Administration and the American Psychiatric Association.
He has a doctorate in the administration of special education from Syracuse University, a master’s degree in educational administration from SUNY Brockport and a bachelor’s degree in communication arts from Cornell University.
The forum will include a panel discussing mental health services for children, adolescents, adults and the elderly.
The Ravazzin Center on Aging at Fordham University and the Mount student organization, Aging United, are co-sponsoring the forum. Mount Saint Mary College offers a five-year collaborative articulation agreement with Fordham whereby students earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology or human services from the Mount and a master’s degree in social work from Fordham.
Reservations are required; lunch will served.
To learn more about the forum and to make reservations, contact Larry Force, professor of psychology and director of the Center on Aging & Policy, at 845-569-3405 or [email protected].
The Mount’s Center on Aging & Policy brings together students, academicians, practitioners, policy makers and community members to discuss issues in the field of gerontology.
