Ribbon Cutting -- Storm King Trailhead
On Friday, May 29th at 10:30AM, join Scenic Hudson and the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate improvements to the trailhead and hiking trail that provide access to Storm King Mountain – one of the valley’s leading natural landmarks. Also, informational kiosks have been created to tell of Storm King Mountain ’s rich history. This story includes Storm King’s impact on Romantic period painters and authors (mid-19th century) and a legal battle Scenic Hudson pursued for 17 years to preserve the mountain – a victory credited for launching the modern environmental movement.
Following the ribbon cutting, Scenic Hudson will lead a one-mile roundtrip hike to an overlook with Hudson River views. The trailhead is named in memory of the Stowells, two of Scenic Hudson’s co-founders who were critical to preserving Storm King. The Esty & Hellie Stowell Trailhead at Storm King Mountain is on land preserved by Scenic Hudson and now owned and managed by Five Points Mission. Storm King State Park includes land preserved by Scenic Hudson and is managed by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission.
