Finding Family's Military History
Tracing your family’s history is a fascinating journey. As part of New York Heritage Weekend, The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor, NY will hold a workshop on Saturday May 14th from 1:00-4:00 PM to help you find the ways and means to research your family’s military history and then preserve those memories once you find the information.
Michele Phillips, Paper Conservator from NYSOPRHP Resource Center at Peebles Island will talk about how to care for your paper collection you have at home and Christopher Zarr, Education Specialist for the National Archives will help teach you how to find your ancestor’s records. By the end of the workshop, you will have a good idea of what to look for in your search, where to go to find the information, and how to keep your family history preserved for years to come. In addition, Purple Heart recipients interested in sharing their story and history with the Hall can record a short part of their story in our video studio on this day from 1:00PM - 4:00 PM by making a reservation in advance. To reserve time, please call (845) 561-1765.
The event will take place rain or shine.
