Poetry Competition Awards Reception
As the 2009 Timothy Mumford Memorial Poetry Competition goes into its final week, the three judges for the 2009 competition are actively reading and assessing 307 poems submitted by 138 poets between the ages of 5 and 18. “We are astounded and delighted to have such a wonderful response from our young poets within the greater Cornwall area,” said Beth Texter, coordinator of the event on behalf of Cornwall Public Library. “This is more than double the number of poems and poets from last year – a huge and wonderful increase!”
Winners in the 5 age categories and for the best overall poem will be announced at the Awards Reception this coming Sunday, April 26th, that will take place at Munger Cottage at 4:00 p.m. Poets and their families are invited and encouraged to attend. Each contributor will receive a small gift, with larger prizes being given to the various winners. Winners who are present will be asked to read their winning poem aloud to the audience, and all will have the opportunity to meet the 2009 judges: Randy Enos, John Kelly and Elissa Zahn. Light refreshments will follow.
