Quail Release at the Nature Museum
On Saturday, July 16 at 1 p.m. join local Cornwall Girl Scout, Elizabeth Klosky at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum as she releases Quail into the fields of the Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center, on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road, Cornwall. Elizabeth, who attended the Museum’s Young Naturalist Preschool Program, is working on her Silver Award Project for Girl Scouts. Her project was to raise Northern Bobwhite Quails from eggs and release them into suitable habitats. Her goal is to educate the public about the birds, their habitat and how to help them.
Elizabeth currently has 45 Northern Bobwhite chicks that have been hatched from eggs that will be ready for release on Saturday, July 16 – 1 p.m. at the Outdoor Discovery Center. Elizabeth credits her success in this project to the following people: Mr. Tim Chadwick of the J.A. Cissel Company, Mr Karan Singh and Mr. Earl Roberts of Home Depot, Ms. Talitha Thurau of Edgwick Farm, Ms. C. Depue who donated the frame work and her friends and family for their help.
The museum is very excited to have these quail as part of the fields and wetlands. Now visitors to the Outdoor Discovery Center can enjoy them for many years to come.
