Mount Spring Poetry Series



Mount Saint Mary College’s Curtin Memorial Library and arts and letters program will host a series of poetry readings, free and open to the public.

The readings will be held in the college library, 330 Powell Avenue, Newburgh.

April 10 at 4 p.m. -- Mary Makofske, winner of several awards including the Robert Penn Warren Prize from the Cumberland Review, will read her poetry. She is author of “The Disappearance of Gargoyles” (Thorntree Press, 1988) and “Eating Nasturtiums” (Flume, 1998). She earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Minnesota.

April 17 at 4 p.m. -- Lucia Cherciu will read from her work and lead a discussion. She writes poetry in English and Romanian and is author of “Lepãdarea de Limbã—The Abandonment of Language” (Editura Vinea 2009) and “Altoiul Râsului—Grafted Laughter” (Editura Brumar 2010). Her poetry has also appeared in “Memoir,” “Earth’s Daughters,” and “Off the Coast,” among others.
