WARM UP AT THE WASHINGTONS’ ON DECEMBER 13TH
(Newburgh, NY … December 2, 2015) Take a moment away from holiday preparations to “Warm Up at the Washingtons’,” during Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site’s annual holiday open house, Sunday, December 13th, 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
Stroll through the same rooms General and Mrs. Washington did during the winter of 1782, the last winter of the Revolutionary War. Festivities would likely have been minimal, with only some small nature-inspired decorations placed throughout the house. Take in the ambiance of the season while listening to the Salmagundi Consort perform appropriate tunes of the period by the Dutch jambless fireplace. Before you leave, have some cookies and cider served by an outdoor fire. For further details call 845-562-1195.
Admission to the historic house is free for the afternoon, sponsored by the Friends of the State Historic Sites of the Hudson Highlands.
Washington’s Headquarters is also part of Newburgh’s historical society’s annual Candlelight Tours. Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site is a registered national historic landmark. It is located at the corner of Liberty and Washington Streets within the city of Newburgh’s East End Historic District.
