On Saturday, June 29, at 9 a.m. the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum invites adults and children age 12 and older to hike Iona Island with Doc Bayne, a regionally recognized naturalist and historian. Learn about the rich history of this nature preserve which saw Native American and Colonial life, a late 19th century amusement park and was used by the military for the manufacture of munitions in WW I, and staging of munitions in WW II. Today it supports an abundance of wildlife including the majestic Bald Eagle. Wear appropriate foot gear, bring water and a bag lunch for this three to four hour hike. Meet at Iona Island parking area on 9W, half-mile south of Bear Mountain Bridge Circle. Heavy rain cancels the hike, listen to the recording at 845-534-5506. Limited admission. Pre-paid registration is required. Admission: $7, Museum Members: $5. For online registration and more information go to the museum’s website at hhnaturemuseum.org or call 845-534-5506 x204.
