The Great Lucy Look-alike Contest and Grape Stomp!
Join the Lucy Look-Alike Contest at Palaia Vineyards.
Sat. Sept. 22 - 3:00 - 9:30 - Lucy Look-alike Contest and Grape Stomp - Lucille Ball had some great comedy bits, and one of our favorites is the grape stomp in an big wooden barrel. So get out your red wigs and lets see what you've got. 4 celebrity judges will decide the 4 best lucys and then it is up to the audience to vote for the one they like best. The winner will receive a case of Palaia wine worth aprox. $200.(must be 21 to win)
There will be vendors of all kinds on the lawn from 3:00 on. We have the BBQ grill going, and along with our wine we have wine slushies, sangria, hot mulled wine and mulled cider, and hard cider on tap. Bring a chair or blanket in case we run out. The band is called "U-GUYS" and are lots of fun to dance to. Amazing talent in this group and no charge at the gate...this is a celebration of harvest.
In the “I Love Lucy” episode that inspired the contest, Lucy finds herself on holiday in a fictional town in Italy, looking for “local color.” She ends up with a group of Italian women who either are picking or stomping grapes in a huge vat.
Unable to communicate in Italian, Lucy’s performance is pure slapstick as she dances through the grapes, eventually wrestling the matronly mama as they roll through the grapes. (View the scene below:)
