Fort Montgomery was the site of a crucial Revolutionary War skirmish. Outnumbering the Americans 3-1, the British sought to control the Hudson River by attacking the twin forts: Montgomery and Clinton. A gruesome battle ensued and resulted in heavy casualties for the Americans. Today, the 14 acre fortification offers reenactments of the battle and other special events. Visitors can examine the site through illustrated signs and self-guided tours.
