Exhibit: Beauty of Diminishing Farmlands
The Executive Suite Gallery in the Orange County Government Center is hosting a poignant photographic exhibit that captures the beauty of the area’s diminishing farmland. The artist, Donna Dolan of Montgomery, is the daughter of lifetime Washingtonville farmers, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley “Stumpy” Dolan. The inspiration for her work is fueled by her close, passionate ties to local agriculture and watching the slow decline of family farms and gradual depletion of open space in the area. Most images in the collection have somber titles such as “Final Resting Place” and “Forgotten Past,” which convey a sense that a once thriving and common way of life is slowly being lost in time.
Dolan has been a force of creativity in the Orange County community for over 25 years. She has professionally photographed numerous local public and private events, as well as public figures and local attractions. Her work has been on display in many Orange County venues including Brotherhood Winery, Downing Park, and DiBello Frame Shop and Gallery. The exhibit will remain open until June 2, 2011.
"The sentiment and value of Donna’s message through her images is apparent. Our agricultural community, and its rich heritage, is an asset to be recognized and preserved for generations to come," said County Executive Edward A. Diana.
The show is located in the Orange County Government Center on the third floor at 255 Main Street in Goshen, and is open to the public during business hours, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
