Hudson River Valley Ramble Events
The Hudson River Valley Ramble celebrates the history, culture and natural resources of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, as well as the amazing landscape, communities, and trails throughout the region. What began as a modest event that was held during one weekend in September, has grown in popularity and in numbers over the years. Every year participation continues to grow. ‘Ramblers’ come not only from the Hudson Valley region and New York State, but from other regions of the country as well to discover the riches our Valley has to offer.

On this history/ecology hike we will see one of only three visible shipwrecks in the Hudson, walk on the original 18th century road that connected Revolutionary War Forts Montgomery and Clinton, pass an ancient Native American Campsite, and identify plants, animals, and rocks along the way. Hike approximately 2 hours and 1 mile long with steep ascents and descents. Please bring appropriate footwear, water and lunch! Registration Required. For more information or to register, please call (845) 446-2134.
Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site will be holding their annual “Kites Over The Hudson” event this year during the 2013 Hudson River Valley Ramble on Saturday, September 21st at 2:00 PM. The event was held for over thirty years at the historic Headquarters and Museum every August. However, this year the event will coincide with the Ramble, which is held during the four weekends in September. With autumn winds approaching, it’s hoped kites will be airborne longer and higher.
As in the past, the first 150 children under the age of 15 will receive a free kite and prizes will be awarded in various categories. Museum admission and admission to the headquarters used by General and Mrs. Washington during the last days of the Revolutionary War is free, thanks to the support of Central Hudson and the Friends of the State Historic Sites of the Hudson Highlands.
Come fly a kite and add some color to the majestic Hudson River’s breathtaking view. Come enjoy a day of family fun and fresh air.
