Newburgh Waterfront Festival



It’s been 20 years and the City of Newburgh International Waterfront Festival is still going strong. The original festival began on short notice when the planned Half Moon Festival had to be cancelled due to the untimely death of Nicholas Benton, boat builder and designer of the Half Moon. Knowing that the City was geared up for a special event on the river, Councilwoman Regina Angelo, Elsie Pyburn, and Theresa Fayo, pulled the first International Waterfront Festival together in one month.

The event was staged every year at Newburgh Landing on Urban Renewal lands, until the waterfront was developed. When the restaurants came in, the festival moved to Gully’s parking lot, and a few years ago, when preparations were being made for the ferry, to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard where it continues today. Deputy Mayor Regina Angelo continues to spearhead the Waterfront Festival Committee.


The entertainment schedule is as follows:
Saturday, Aug. 30:
∑ 5 p.m. Catbox (Black Sabbath)
∑ 6:30 p.m. Schism (Tool)
∑ 8 p.m. Facelift (Alice in Chains)
∑ 9 p.m.: Hindenberg, “the Ultimate Led Zeppelin Musical Showcase.” The “Led Zeppelin lives on in HINDENBERG, the tri-state area's definitive Led Zeppelin music showcase. Featuring Mike McEwan (of A Perfect Tool and Archives) on lead vocals, Felix Hanamann (Zebra) on bass and keyboards, Karl Cochran (Joe Lynn Turner, Ace Frehley Band) on guitar, and Steve “Budgie” Werner (Ace Frehley, Leslie West) on drums, HINDENBERG is much more than just another Zep cover band, it's a full blown Led Zeppelin experience exploding onto the northeast rock n' roll music scene.”

Sunday, Aug. 31:
∑ 5 p.m. The Sugar Beats
∑ 6:15 p.m. Sweet Madness
∑ 7:45 p.m. Joe Lynn Turner; Former front man for (Ritchie Blackmore’s) Rainbow and Deep Purple, Joe Lynn Turner (JLT),. He’ll be joined onstage by most of the musicians that also appear on his first live solo CD, “Live in Germany” is slated for release this Fall. Following his appearance in the City of Newburgh, Turner will depart to entertain the troops in Iraq.

∑ 9:30 pm. Eric Burdon and The Animals. An English music group of the 1960s made popular in the United States as part of the “British Invasion, ” Eric Burdon and The Animals were known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon. Their signature songs include "The House of the Rising Sun" and "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place", balancing tough, rock-edged pop singles against rhythm and blues-oriented album material

Monday, Sept. 1
∑ Noon: Gospelfest
∑ 4 p.m. Caribe Sol
∑ 7 p.m. Guillermo Aguilar y El Mariachi Viva Mexico:
∑ 7:30 p.m. Hey Baby Band

The show will go on, rain or shine.

Midway rides and early-bird vendors will begin on Friday around 5 p.m. The festivities will be in full swing with a wide range of vendors, carnival rides and attractions on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m., and on Monday from noon till 10 p.m.

The concerts will be held on the main concert stage at the festival on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., (also known as Water Street/Marine Drive).
