| Watch out for this vine. |
Volunteers are invited to attend a field training workshop in Cornwall, NY at 5:30 pm where they will learn the necessary skills to identify and monitor for
mile-a-minute vine, an invasive plant which is spreading rapidly in the Lower Hudson River Valley. Another invasive plant, black swallow-wort, will
also be discussed.
The workshop will include background information about this project and the Schunnemunk Mountain State Park as well as GPS skills and how to report observed occurrences of the vine. Volunteers should dress appropriately, with boots; long pants and shirts; leather gloves; and bug protection. If you have a GPS receiver, please bring it.
Refreshments will be provided, courtesy of the Hudson River Estuary Program. The group will gather at 5:30 pm at Leo's Restaurant and Pizzeria at 22 Quaker Ave., Cornwall, NY and will carpool from there to a local mile-a-minute infestation and then to Schunnemunk Mountain State Park.
Organizers have reserved a table for 10 people at Leo's and will spend some time there discussing the project goals over pizza before heading out into the field. Please RSVP tMeredith Taylor at [email protected] or 845-889-4745 ext. 109.
In the event of severe weather the workshop will be rescheduled for Wed. August 6, 5:30 pm-8:00 pm.
