Nature Museum Prepares for 7th Annual Spring Hike-A-Thon

Hudson Highlands Nature Museum Announces Date, Seeks Sponsors

CORNWALL, NY –If you’re a hiker or outdoor enthusiast, be sure to mark Saturday, April 27 on your calendar and make plans to join the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum’s 7th Annual Hike-A-Thon and Earth Day celebration. An event for the whole family, it takes place at the Museum's Outdoor Discovery Center on Muser Drive off Angola Road in Cornwall.
Earth Day activities include a big bonus this year -- the opening of Grasshopper Grove, the Hudson Valley's first natural play area!

“Spending a morning hiking with family and friends – it’s the perfect way to support this unique and wonderful museum,” said Young Naturalist Preschool Director Sandy Dixon who each year leads a team of families from the Preschool. “Combining the Hike-A-Thon with the Museum’s Earth Day Celebration is always a great success,” said Jackie Grant, Executive Director of the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum. “Friends of the Museum support this unique fundraiser and when they return, there's the added excitement of the Earth Day events underway with farm animals, pony rides and our Green Zone activities."

"For those interested in supporting the Museum, it’s easy to get involved with the Hike-A-Thon,” said Hike committee member co-chair and Museum trustee Susan Christensen. “Hikers are asked to form teams and seek support from friends, family, co-workers and local businesses to help them meet their fundraising goals. There’s no registration fee, we simply ask hikers to try for a goal of raising $100 per hiker.”

Hikers will be able to choose from a variety of trails, as well as guided and independent hikes. Hikes range in difficulty from a very easy to a more vigorous hike, as well as the Museum’s moderate to slightly challenging trails for those hikers in between. The event will start at 9:00 a.m. with group warm-up exercises and hikers will set off soon after. The trails will be supervised until noon, giving everyone a chance to enjoy a beautiful day outdoors. Earth Day activities will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the opening of Grasshopper Grove will begin at noon. The rain date is Sunday, April 28.

To become a 2013 Hike-A-Thon sponsor or team leader, or to learn more about any of the Museum’s Earth Day activities, go to hhnaturemuseum.org or call 845-534-5506 x204.
