The General's Lady

| Mary Mangione |
What better way to bring to a close Women's History Month than by honoring Martha Washington! Through her courage, fortitude, and dedication to the public good, Martha Washington exemplified the active role of women in history. Join us at 1:00 p.m. as we acknowledge the contributions of women both in history and in the preservation of our history. The event is free with admission to the Museum.
The program will begin with a presentation on "The History of the Army Nurse Corps" by Colonel Dorothy Cox. Colonel Dorothy Hinds Cox has been the Deputy Commander for Nursing/Chief Nurse USAMEDDAC West Point since July 2005 and has 26 years of service in the United States Army Nurse Corps.
Following Colonel Cox' presentation, the sixth annual "Martha Washington Woman of History Award" will be awarded to Mary Mangione, the Executive Director of the Hudson River Valley Greenway and Executive Director of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area. Mary has been a very strong advocate of American Revolution programs in New York, including the 225th Anniversary and Patriot celebrations, the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route and the Henry Knox Cannon Trail.
A reception follows with light refreshments and music provided by the King's Delight Duet - Andrew Dalton and Barbara Kidney. They will play and sing music of early America that will include "Lady Washington's Reel".
