USMA Chamber Music Series
On Sunday, March 6th at 3:00 p.m., trombonist Staff Sgt. Dan Pierce will present a recital at West Point’s Jewish Chapel entitled "Arrows of Time." Pierce, a trombonist with the West Point Band, will be featured in several different musical settings in a varied set of classic trombone recital pieces, music for trombone quartet, and jazz selections. The concert is free and open to the public.
Guy Ropartz’s Piece in Eb Minor and Suite for Four Trombones by Alfred Homoff fall on the classical side of the spectrum. The program’s namesake, written by Richard Peaslee, is a “crossover” piece, incorporating both jazz and classical music, a perfect vehicle for Pierce’s dual background. West Point Band pianist, Staff Sgt. Yalin Chi, will accompany Pierce on the Ropartz and the Peaslee.
Also on the program is a world premiere, West Point Band saxophonist Staff Sgt. Mike Reifenberg’s Tango and Jubilee for trombone quartet. The quartet features West Point Band trombonists Master Sgt. Marty Tyce, Master Sgt. Matt Wozniak, and Staff Sgt. Phil Stehly.
Staff Sgt. Pierce will perform a suite of jazz standards, joined by members from the West Point Band’s Jazz Knights, pianist Master Sgt. Scott Arcangel and bassist Staff Sgt. Brandon Nelson.
Staff Sgt. Pierce joined the West Point Band’s Jazz Knights in 2006. He earned a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Music from DePaul University.
