November 10th Cornwall Town Meeting Highlights

Cornwall NY - Minutes from October 7th work session meeting, to October 29th budget work session meeting was all approved except for October 14th regular town hall meeting. Council person Helen Bunt request opinions be stricken from the minutes.

Bunt referred to the minutes that states, “Mr. Randazzo became combative and disruptive by raising his voice and stating that the Town Board runs the Town of Cornwall government.” “The minutes should be only what's on the tape, no opinion of the clerk or anyone else,” said Bunt.

Town Clerk Renata McGee agreed that “Mr. Randazzo became combative and disruptive,” should not be in the minutes. “He was, but I am not allowed to say he was, I get it.” McGee said. McGee advised the way minutes work, she will not remove the statements from October 14 minutes, however the minutes for November 10 will reflect, disapproval of statement.

The court had received several upgrades. The latest, new microphones that Jim Kline a Cornwall Lion, volunteered to rewire before the meeting that day. “He did a great job,” Supervisor Clark said, as he acknowledge Kline's work.

Eugene Conley, from the highway and sanitation explained the need to upgrade their trucks. Some of their trucks are 25 years old with extreme wear and tear from salt, moisture and strenuous work. Leasing is an option that Conley advised that allowed the department to receive a sweeper and a road mower in the past. Dave Halversen from the Village Highway and sanitation department explained the benefits of using the lease-purchase program. A few of the benefits included, the ability to purchase necessities such as new dump truck for $160,000 and with the option to pay it off in five years without going over their budget.

There were several resolutions all in favor. Local law Firthcliffe Heights Water District – which requires payment for used and new replacement water meters, or damage water meters, to increase the amounts charged for late payments, and to impose a charge for final readings. Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson request for property tax exemption – the town denied the Village request to receive a tax exemption on properties used by the village for water supply. Menorah – Chabad of Eastern Orange County will have use Munger Cottage on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 5:30 pm for a Chanukah, as long as they follow rules and regulations given by the town and have proof of insurance. Town Hall roof bid – all previous bids were rejected and the Supervisor and the Town’s Consulting Engineer is authorized to set a date for the re-advertisement of bids. Sanitation Laborer – the position will go publicly.
