General News: COVAC Discussed at Work Session

March 11, 2013

By Joseph Oliveto

The Town Board continued to discuss the issue of COVAC at Tuesday night’s work session.

A key concern was making sure that COVAC is able to partner with enough local ALS providers so that residents do not get two bills.

A presentation from Dennis Murphy, a New Windsor Paramedic and representative of TransCare, one of the ALS providers COVAC would be partnering with, explained the issue to the board.

“The resident would see no bill,” Murphy said. Instead, TransCare would collect from COVAC. This arrangement would, ideally, allow COVAC to maintain a fixed schedule of fees for their services.

The board also passed a resolution approving their new contract with COVAC.

The board accepted a proposal from the Cornwall Community Co-op to hold the Farmer’s Market on both Wednesday and Saturday this year, with adjusted hours.

The issue of the well that Kiryas Joel plans to build in Mountainville was brought up, as some residents are concerned that their wells will be affected. A letter from the Supervisor was authorized that would most likely include a request for a public hearing and further testing.

When the time came for public comment, several people in attendance continued to express concern over the Cornwall Commons issue. The board assured everyone that they would be kept informed.
