On Saturday March 9th, 2013, the PTO Drama Club at COHES will be putting on an original production titled " With Our Own Two Hands." The show's director, Mr. Seth Soloway, is the founding artistic director of Newburgh's Railroad Playhouse.
The show was created using a program developed by Mr. Soloway called The Playwrighters Workshop. Throughout the program the students were taught how to develop a story based on theme that they choose. The students have worked in small groups with a parent volunteer guiding the process. Our production includes 7 skits written by 7 groups of drama club participants, as well as 3 songs sung by the students, which help to weave the skits together into a full theatre experience. All sets have been painted by a group of talented fourth graders this year, making for a fuller attempt at student participation and originality in this show. The stories have three specific characteristics. They are all about some type of family. The writers chose such varied family types ranging from a superhero family, to an elf family!! Also, all the stories must involve someone learning some kind of lesson, and all the stories should conclude with a happy ending.
"With Our Own Two Hands" is a truly original production. Thanks to the professional leadership of our director Mr. Soloway, the students have been empowered to create characters and stories for themselves.
Shows are Saturday March 9th, 2013 at 10:30 am* and 4pm. Tickets are $8 and are available at the door.
*Friday March 8th's scheduled performance is moved to Saturday, March 9th at 10:30am. due to the snow day.
