February 07, 2013

The Cornwall-on-Hudson Storm King Engine Company No. 2 Volunteer Fire Department held its annual Awards Dinner on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Mountainville Manor.  Presentations, installation of officers for 2013 and 2012 awards began after the company enjoyed a cocktail hour and dinner.

Kevin Hines was one of the speakers of the evening. He said “when I got the invitation tonight I thought we could call a few things, we could call it groundhog day, we could call it Superbowl Eve, or we could call it Clancy’s birthday (Matt Clancy).”

He then praised the village board “How about our village board...there’s nobody running against these guys and there’s a reason for that, they had open bar down at the river for four days and they invited the whole village.” He was referring to the parties surrounding the annual fireman’s parade hosted by Storm King Fire Engine Co. No. 2.

Kevin thanked Matt Clancy for his work on the parade and gave him a Distinguished Service Award from Orange County legislators.

Newly installed Storm King Engine Company No. 2 Chief Robby Vought presented an award to outgoing Storm King Engine Company No. 2 President and former Department Treasurer Doug Vatter who was the newest "Active Life Member" and honored for dedication, leadership, and years of service. He received a retirement sign proclaiming him Fire Chief of the historical "Cornwall Landing Hose Co." due to him having a boat at the landing, he will probably be spending a lot of time on during his "retirement".

"Top Responder - Active Life Member" Charles Tonneson was presented with award by newly installed Chief Robby Vought. Joe Trainor was presented with the award "Oldest Life Member" after serving 63 years with the fire department.  Kerri Hogan was an Honoree for "Top Responder - Active Probationary Member over 18."

Mike Trainor and Jeff Armitage were thanked by the Chief for running the spectacularly successful "2012 Orange County Volunteer Firemen's Association Parade and Convention" that Cornwall-on-Hudson Storm King Engine Company No. 2 hosted this past September.

Kurt Hahn was thanked by the Chief for assisting this year as Safety Officer.
