I had the great pleasure to speak with, and to interview, Frank DeCicco Jr., Co-Owner of 'DeCicco Family Markets', and obtain from him an update and a statement relative to the progress being made with regard to an expected grand
opening in mid-January.
The supermarket, originally slated to be open on or about December 6th, is now projected to open in mid-January 2013 due to delays sustained as a result of the back to back/one-two punches of both Super Storm Sandy followed by the NorEaster a short while later. Both storms delayed delivery of materials and equipment from varied vendors across the nation as a result of supply line disruptions.
DeCicco's Family Market, will be located in the Cornwall Plaza Shopping Mall, in the heart of town on Quaker Avenue by the traffic circle and situated at the site and in the structure of three former food chains (Grand Union, Key Food and the
Cornwall Farms) and upon opening will be the sole "supermarket" in Town.
Frank Jr., who described himself as the quintessential 'hands on' Manager, said that in each and every 'DeCicco Market' there is a 'DeCicco' family member who is out and about the store, interacting with customers on a daily basis so as to get real-time feedback and to provide what DeCicco Markets are known for, that is, enhanced customer service and quality food product with an emphasis on local vendors and purveyors and community involvement.
Per Frank Jr., they are going to have all the amenities of other DeCicco Markets including, both a fresh bakery and fresh seafood department, as well as what he called a "Growler Station", described as a location where fresh beer, poured into a container which is then sealed, will be available for purchase and carryout.
