General News: Supervisor Quigley on Cornwall Commons

November 04, 2012

By Joseph Oliveto 11/04/2012

With developers potentially looking to amend thePlanned Adult Community (PAC) status of the Cornwall Commons development, numerous residents are concerned that the future of the project could have a negative impact on the community.

A petition posted on Change.org summarizes the issue with the following statement: “The justification for the proposed Cornwall Commons development – its size, its design, its community impacts – is based on its status as a Planned Adult Community (PAC), restricted to ages 55 and older. The developer’s request to remove this restriction and build the same 490-unit development makes no sense. Despite his assurances that impacts would not change, it is clear that the new proposed development would place a disproportionate burden on Cornwall’s tax bills, schools, roads, firefighters, police, sewer and water systems, and home values.”

When asked to comment on these concerns, Town Supervisor Kevin Quigley expressed the desire to remind residents that no major progress has been made on this project as of now.

Although the developers have been allowed to work with the town’s planners – a service for which the developers are paying – they have yet to present any sort of proposal to the Town Board. Mr. Quigley stated that the project is merely in the “research stage,” and that when the time comes to make a decision on the issue, it will be a “common sense” decision.

He also made sure to address some of the rumors that have been circulating, stating that the developers are approved for the originally proposed 490 unit development, and that they will not receive approval for more units.

Mr. Quigley urged residents to read the actual resolution on this issue and to continue following it via Cornwall-ny.com and the various local news outlets. The Town Board is making sure to keep the people of Cornwall informed on the progress of the Cornwall Commons development.

Cornwall-ny.com/Cornwall-on-Hudson.comwill continue to follow this story as it develops.
