General News: Tractor Trailer Accident Closes 9W

Tractor Trailer Accident on 9w
Tractor Trailer Accident on 9w
November 07, 2012

Both northbound and southbound traffic is not being permitted onto Storm King Mountain with Police Roadblocks just south of the Angola Road exit gor southbound traffic and in Highland Falls for northbound traffic.

Reportedly there is a jacked knife tractor trailer on the top of Storm King Mountain blocking the northbound lanes of the roadway and a snowplow sander is stuck in traffic south of the accident scene. DOT is trying to clear the northbound lanes by sending plows and sanders south in the northbound lanes but that requires stuck cars to be removed before they can getup to the affected cares to enable tow crews to get in and right the jackknifed tractor trailer.

Route 218/Storm King Highway is also closed due to snow and ice as well as a motor vehicle accident. Route 299 is also closed in Highland Falls.

Numerous vehicles are stuck on the road between the two parking areas and several have slid off the road. Many vehicles have been towed and many people are still stranded on the Mountain with some including my two sons stuck for over three and four hours respectively. Snow plows have been having a hard time accessing the Mountain due to stopped and stuck vehicles.

Police, DOT sander crews and tow vehicles have been doing a great job attempting to clear stranded vehicles.

Road conditions are treacherous and cars that have been unblocked are creeping along at exceptionally slow speeds.

There is mo timeline yet on the removal of the jackknifed tractor trailer, in that there are numerous vehicles that are stuck ahead of the accident that have to be removed.

Update 10 pm:
The snow plow that was being used on Route 218 at the accident scene is also stuck in northbound traffic on Storm King Mountain. Now they are allowing one vehicle at a time to squeeze past the jackknifed tractor trailer.
