As lines for gas grow and gas stations run out of gas, Senator Charles Schumer told the media that a port has opened which will allow tankers carrying two million gallons of gas to arrive in Newburgh, N.Y. The gas is now making its way from Newburgh/New Windsor terminals in fuel trucks for delivery in the region.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed an Executive Order yesterday, November 1, 2012, to allow distributors and transporters to bring gasoline, diesel, and kerosene into the State of New York without having to meet the usual registration requirements, which can help alleviate the current gas shortages that are a result of Hurricane Sandy.

The two local gas stations, DB Mart in Cornwall and Cumberland Farms in Cornwall-on-Hudson have been feeling the rush of customers from both in and out of town. The DB Mart ran out of gas. J.D., who runs the mart, said “Our gas suppliers come from Poughkeepsie and get the gas at the terminal in New Windsor. Hopefully we are getting a delivery tomorrow. Hopefully.”

Cumberland Farms of Cornwall-on-Hudson has had a continuous line of cars from NY and NJ. Most waited in a line of 10 to 20 cars at a time with traffic being directed by the village Police. A spokesperson for Cumberland Farms confirmed this evening that they will be resupplying fuel this evening at that location for consumers in the morning.
