General News: Fundraiser Brings Broadway Stars to Town

April 05, 2012

Have you discovered Just Off Broadway, a non-profit corporation dedicated to producing live theatre in the area? Professional actors and actresses take part in Just Off Broadway performances in The New Windsor Playhouse, located in the auditorium of St. Joseph School. The theater group also welcomes young actors, with students from throughout the area joining the casts and getting a chance to learn about all aspects of theater production. This season, the group will perform six musicals, starting with The Pirates of Penzance on June 14 and running through It’s A Wonderful Life in December.

Before the current rises on the 2012 season, however, the group is holding a fundraiser, Tastes of the Season, to raise much-need funds for a new fire sprinkler system. The fundraiser on April 15 is a casual cocktail party that features performances from the Hudson Valley's most talented performers and include stars from Broadway.

Organizers of the event promise that Just Off Broadway, Inc. will shower guests with food, drink & fun. Sample delicious foods such as French cuisine from the Phantom of the Opera table, "Pirate Food" at Pirates of Penzance, Viennese delicacies from The Sound of Music, a delicious spread of sweets at the Seussical the Musical table, Cuban/American comfort food served by A Few Good Men, and traditional Holiday goodies from It's A Wonderful Life.

Finally, attendees can enjoy performances highlighting songs from musicals in Just Off Broadway's 2012 Season. Scheduled to perform are Broadway stars: Andrea Rivette (Jekyll & Hyde, Miss Saigon), Kenneth Kantor (Phantom of the Opera, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, ...Forum), Charles Pistone (Kiss of the Spiderwoman, The Most Happy Fella, Saturday Night Fever), Brian Michael Hoffman (Seussical the Musical, Annie), Jane Brockman (A Christmas Carol, She Loves Me), Ed Romanoff (Hairspray, The Most Happy Fella), Sally Swallow (JOB Inc.'s Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat). The event is directed and choreographed by the Hudson Valley's own Joyce A. Presutti, Executive Artistic Director of Just Off Broadway, Inc.

Taste of the Season
takes place at The Broadway Club Room at the Salisbury Mills Fire Department, 2128 Route 94, in Salisbury Mills, on Sunday, April 15, from 3-to-6 pm. Tickets are $50 per person and are tax-deductible.
