General News: Proposed Library Budget Set for April 17 Vote

In preparation for the annual Library Budget Vote that will take place at Cornwall Public Library on Tuesday, April 17th, the Library’s Board of Trustees has approved the proposed operating budget for the next fiscal year.

The proposed 2012/2013 Library operating budget is $1,068,214, of which $1,008,874 is to be raised by taxes. The breakout is as follows:

The increaase in the projected tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value is as follow:

The estimated annual library tax increase would be $4.00 for a house in Cornwall with an assessed value of $207,000.


Also on the ballot will be election of two library trustees, each for a 5-year term. Mary Davis Clark, a past board president, will not be running for re-election. The other position is a vacancy resulting from the resignation of Cheryl Buescher from the board.  Six candidates are running for the two vacant seats.  They are Janine K. Bixler, Dominick Forte, Wayne Hall, Elisabeth Hellwege, James Horne and Rachel Sapienza-Hunt.

Voting will take place at Cornwall Public Library from 10 am until 9 pm on Tuesday, April 17th. In order to vote, you must be a resident of the Cornwall Central School District and registered to vote in a general or school district election. New voters are required to register in person up to 5 days prior to the election. Absentee ballots are available by stopping in Cornwall Public Library, or contacting (845) 534-8282.
