General News: Human Rights Scholarship

Goshen – Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana is pleased to announce that the Orange County Human Right’s Commission is once again seeking applicants for its annual college scholarship award. The monetary award will recognize an Orange County high school senior who fosters human rights awareness within a school or community.
Scholarship applicants must be a high school senior or eligible for graduation in the 2013 calendar year and be pursuing a post-secondary education. The eligible applicant must also reside in Orange County and be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident at the time of the nomination.
The Orange County Human Rights Commission is looking for applicants who display mutual respect and understanding among all racial, religious, ethnic, and nationality groups and who initiated and/or participates in programs that foster human rights awareness.
Application forms are available from school guidance counselors, or by calling the Commission office at 615-3680, or on the Human Rights Commission page of the County website at www.orangecountygov.com. The application deadline is April 12, 2013.
Completed applications should be mailed to: Orange County Human Rights Commission, Suite 203, 18 Seward Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.
The scholarship is funded through proceeds from ticket sales to the Orange County Human Rights Commission’s annual awards dinner which will be held this year on
April 11 at The Fountains of Wallkill.
The Human Rights Commission has a mission to foster mutual respect and understanding among all racial, religious and nationality groups in the County.
