General News: Groups to Form Occupy Orange

January 17, 2012

Several community groups and unions are working together to bring the Occupy movement to Orange County. The organizers include Orange County Peace & Justice, CSEA of Orange County, the Democratic Alliance, Community Voices Heard and the Service Employees Union Local 1199.

The groups have organized what they are billing as a celebration, pep rally and organizing meeting to set up an Occupy Orange group on Thursday, February 2, at 7 pm at the Mulberry House Senior Center at 62-70 West Main Street in Middletown. The event will include food, music and speakers from the various sponsoring organizations. Participants are asked to bring canned goods for the needy.

For further info contact Bennett Weiss at 845-569-8662 or at [email protected] or Verne M. Bell at 845-569-8965 or by email at [email protected]. Snowdate: Thursday, Feb. 9, same time, same place.

Comments:

Sorry, but all that these occupy groups have managed to accomplish is spending more of my hard earned money in the form of overtime for police presence, clean up by DPW workers etc. I'm all for standing up for our rights and fighting taxation without representation but let's find a way to do it without breaking overtime budgets or strangling small businesses to the point of failure. How many workers lost their jobs because of occupy Wall Street? Was it worth it?...I'll bet those unemployed folks don't think it was...

I support all American's right to assembly but this "movement" is an embarrassment. I feel sorry for the young people that have been sucked into this waste of time, money and energy. If only all this effort could be doing something productive and positive--not destructive and negative.
