General News: Woman Charged With Reckless Endangerment

January 12, 2012

By Charlie B. Scirbona

A series of accidents involving a Highland Falls woman points up the connection between driving under the influence. The woman was involved in a hit-and-run accident last Friday and police later found she was inhaling fumes from an aerosol can while driving.

Police charged Heather Fox, 35, of Highland Falls, with three misdemeanors including second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and possession of noxious materials. Fox were also charged with three traffic violations: leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to keep right and not wearing a seatbelt.

Police say that Fox left the scene of an accident on Cedar Lane after hitting a parked truck and a mail box shortly before 5 pm on January 6, then stopped down the road. According to Town of Cornwall Police Chief Todd Hazard, when Officer Stephen Bedetti interviewed Fox he noticed a can of spray duster on the passenger seat. In the course of the interview Fox admitted to Officer Bedetti that she had actually been inhaling fumes from the can while she was driving. Bedetti also found the Fox had left the scene of two other unrelated accidents.

Fox was later released to reappear at Town of Cornwall court on January 26.
