General News: Do You Recognize These Buttons?

Do you know anything about this Firth Carpet button?

The Cornwall Historical Society is asking for the public’s help to crack a mystery involving the old Firth Carpet company. The carpet company was a major employer in Cornwall from the late 1800s until it closed in 1962.

The historical society has several items from the carpet company and its employees, who had a vibrant social life in the area near the plant known as Firthcliffe. However, they are puzzled by the purpose of two Firth Carpet button/pins that have a deer in the background that is the company’s mascot or logo.

If anyone knows what purpose these buttons served, please contact the Cornwall Historical Society at [email protected] or leave a comment below.

Comments:

My Father worked at Firth and told me that they were Employee Badges to get in the Plants, His name is James W Mac Morran and will be 90 years old March 3rd so i guess he knows for sure

Thanks David for your insight and reply. Were the different colors for different departments or for some other purpose? Were there other colors?
