General News: Musicians Rock 2 Alices Saturday Night

November 27, 2006

Hey Folk’s, It me again…. “Little” Bobby Barton

I have to start out by saying, that If you were not in attendance at my “2 Alice’s Coffee Lounge” Open Mic this past Saturday night, then you missed 11 of the best acts around.

It was non-stop talent right from Act 1. (I say this, because Paige and I opened the show this month.)

Up next was Barbara Farabaugh …. Barbara’s keyboard playing, combined with her vocals and choice of songs, would make her a hit at any open mic.

Barry Adlemen followed Barb with 3 original tunes.

Then Pam and Ed Rini, a couple from Monroe, known as “Over the Line” (Pam plays Bass guitar and sings and Ed backs Pam on acoustic guitar and mandolin) entertained us with 3 cover tunes, one of them being, “Time after Time” by Cindy Lauper.

The 5th act of the night was none other than that Guitar playing, coffee slinging counter person for the open mic’s, "Hank”, of “Hank and the skinny 3” fame. He played 3 original tunes for the packed house.

Ian Weiss drew the #6 slot. (Sounds like NASCAR eh?) Ian played 3 very soft and heartfelt tunes. I’m not kidding when I tell you, you could hear a pin drop when he was performing.

Next was a dear friend of mine from Rio, N.Y, Mr. Mike Baglioni. Mike made the 1 1/2hr trek to come down and play a few tunes for us.
It’s always a delight to sit and listen to him play and sing.

When Mike was done, Pat “Juke” Alfano took to the stage, Juke, who is a long time supporter of my open mic’s, gave us 3 of his best original
tunes to date. A surprise was had by all on his 3rd song, however, when Barry Adlemen accompanied him on the flute.

Next was Ian’s older brother, Keaton Weiss. I always love Keaton’s choice of songs, and tonight was no different. One song in particular was his version of a Bob Dylan song called “Love Sick.”

And last, but by no means least, Richard Timm took to the carpet and closed out the evening. (I can honestly say, knowing Rich for as long as I have,
I never knew he played the guitar and sang.) Rich played 3 original songs that night. His one song about the children of Haiti, was great…

So, see what you missed?

How about this? Next month, turn off the TV for one night, (That night being Dec. 23rd) and come on by. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

Next Open Mic is Dec. 23rd. Doors open at 6:00. I am calling this one My “Christmas Extravaganza” Open Mic.
