General News: Eggbert's Back and Children Love Him

Eggbert (before his makeover)
Eggbert (before his makeover)
December 12, 2011

The New York Times always seems to be on top of the stories that really matter in the world and Monday’s edition is no different, with a feature story on the return of the much-loved Eggbert to the holiday throne at Devitt’s.

After entertaining tens of thousands of area residents since the 1970s, Eggbert went into retirement in 1999, but he’s back this year with a new Castle where Eggbert greets the wide-eyed children who come to talk about their Christmas dreams. Many of those returning, with their own small children in tow, are people who came to see Eggbert when they were young.

The return of Eggbert was engineered by the new owners, Chris Fitch and Joe Gizzarelli, who decided to add to holiday happiness by reinstating Christmas on the Farm featuring live animals and Eggbert the talking egg. In addition to the new‘Castle’ for Eggbert an entirely new area and facilities have been established for enjoying the animals on the ‘Farm’. The whole team at Devitt’s has been involved in the major activities leading to this event that was started by the late Jack Devitt so many years ago.

Stop by an say ‘hello’ to Eggbert at Devitts, on Route 32 in New Windsor, Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm. Chris and Joe welcome ‘children of all ages’ to come to the farm and Eggbert.

Comments:

I grew up with Eggbert and use to go see him on my birthday. It was always a very special day and he was so magical to me (how did he know my name!!) I was home for Thanksgiving this year and couldn't believe I was taking my two small children to see the famed Eggbert nearly 30 years later. Thank you, Devitt's, for bringing back this local (albeit quirky) tradition and allowing me to relive my childhood memories with my family.
