The stars came out at the Bear Mountain Inn recently to celebrate the re-opening of the nearly 100-year-old landmark that now offers fully renovated suites and a new chef who promises to present some of the most delicious food in the area.

Former Governor George Pataki and members of the Rockefeller and Perkins families were on hand for the Gala that celebrated the $15 million renovation of the Inn. The well-heeled guests came to remember the heyday of the Inn at the center of the Palisades Interstate Parkway system and to contribute to the on-going restoration of the place.

Adirondack Style Throughout the Restored Inn

The renovation of the stone-and-timber Bear Mountain Inn has brought an Adirondack-style décor throughout the public areas. The great room on the second floor still has its signature double-sided fireplace that is large enough to step into and massive chestnut timber posts are scattered throughout. The Gala was held on the first floor of the building, which features a hotel lobby, a new gift shop called the Bear Mountain Trading Company and the 1915 Café.

The café is now open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, and for breakfast from Thursday to Sunday, offering a menu created by executive chef Michael Matarazzo that is based on organic ingredients from the Hudson Valley.   Spicy pulled pork or short-rib sliders can be found on the menu, along with sandwiches, soups and drinks. — most using organic ingredients from Hudson Valley businesses.

The 1915 Cafe Now Open Daily

Chef Matarazzo is also overseeing the Inn’s formal dining restaurant on the second floor, the Vintage restaurant, which is expected to open to the public in 2012.

The renovated guest rooms at the Inn are scheduled to be open in a few weeks, but three were on view for curious visitors during the Gala. The spacious two-room, Honeymoon Suite includes a fireplace and second bathroom for guests. A sitting area in the hallway features chairs hewn from logs that complement the main corridor that features large timber beams.

If you have children, you can experience the 1915 Café on one of the Breakfast with Santa dates on December 3, 10, and 17 starting at 10 am. The Bear Mountain Skating Rink is now open for the winter season as well. Don’t miss the gift shop while you’re there. You’ll find lots of Hudson Valley related treasures and hiking accessories for enjoying the great outdoors.
